Safety precautions

Precaution to be taken during and after Lasik eye surgery

During LASIK eye surgery, an instrument called a microkeratome or femto second laser is used to create a thin flap in the cornea. The cornea is then peeled back and the underlying corneal tissue is reshaped using a new laser. After the cornea is reshaped it can properly focus light onto the retina.

The cornea flap is put back in place and the LASIK surgical treatment is complete. LASIK is performed while the patient is under local anesthesia in the form of eye drops and usually takes about 10 minutes to complete. Patients may also call mild sedation. Arrange someone to drive you home after surgery. In contrast, LASIK and other forms of refractive surgery are intended to correct the eye's refractive error to reduce the need for other visual aids. Your eyes will provisionally be dry even though they do not feel that way. Our doctor will give you treatment and eye drops to avoid infection and redness and eye drops to keep your eyes wet. These drops may cause a temporary slight burn or blurring of your vision when you use them. Do not use any eye drops not approved by your LASIK eye surgeon. Healing after LASIK eye surgery usually occurs very quickly. Your Vision may be dim and cloudy for the first day. Most patients notice better vision within a few days of eye surgery. You will return to the eye surgeon for an estimate 24 to 48 hours after LASIK eye surgery. During this time our eye surgeon and technician will remove your eyelid holder and any tape from your eyes. Our surgeon will then ask you to blink a few times. Our LASIK surgeon will now repeat the method on your other eye.
